a study toward sonnet #546 by FisherKingKQJ
A slash of yellow sunlight hit my face
From parted curtains and enflamed my cheek;
I woke up in an unfamiliar place-
I was in someone else's bed and meek.
Pretending to sleep, I snuck in a peek-
He was in the bathroom; I grabbed my gear,
Departed on the smallest back door squeak,
The cunning nearly much too much to bear.
He had the large trapezoid, diminutive derriere,
It tempted me to overstay my welcome-
But our personalities weren't a pair,
The bubbly chat in retrospect was humdrum.
I guess that I played a defensive game,
It came across ingenious or else tame.
(Chorus)
I guess that I played a defensive game.
I guess that I played a defensive plot.
I guess that I played a defensive strategy.
