Sonnet #56
My love and I discussed teen growing pains,
Regards my bra size I drooped at a loss,
I couldn't work out natural weight gains,
Nor periods my red hair would dull or gloss.
We scanned a summer salt meadow bright emboss
Tight prostrate runners and ornate rosettes
Grey shell and shingle sand bars, hills of dross
Moved hither, thither, my poor brain forgets.
Glasswort mauve, goosefoot dull pink, their turrets
High in fine shorepimpernel spangled white;
A burrowing crab his tunnel crimps, then frets;
Sharp grasses on my calves crisscross cuts slight.
My love says life is movement as we stomp
The gypsy shell bars of a mangrove swamp.
