Save the Leopard
by Toshiro Yakuza
transl. by Nicky-san
I was dealt lousy hands in life's blackjack,
All pushing me above pure twenty one;
A gumba gave sad me another crack
When I was orphaned, when all would shun.
Now I take under my large wistful wing
Zoo leopards whose old leagues have shrunk
In Africa, for whom gates could outswing,
Look, black and yellow teeth in this here trunk.
Our leopards crunch organic sugar cane
Their teeth rot black and loosen, fall about,
They're shipped to Bangla Desh as harmless bane,
Amending predatory tigers' drought.
The black teeth make their way to keyboards
As sharps and flats, plug egregious western gaps,
They smack in off beat, sweet North Korean chords,
Where earliest gumbas came from, game at craps.
Buy, too, large black and yellow teeth chess sets
Of finest poached sea leopard tusk, not pets'.
(Chorus)
o sets
o batches
o groups
