a study toward sonnet #1,375 by FisherKingKQJ
(n)
I swam past schools of pilchards flat as sails
Above two broken mastheads on the brig,
A flash of silver slivers, heads spun tails,
While banded black and white kraits passed for rig.
I sifted soot and silt for sponger pails,
From coral crusted cannons, trunk and twig,
I watched snake eels shoot off the scales,
Chase trevally who troll wrecks infra dig.
I dreamed of hammock webbing side rails slung
Tired sailors snoring, sardines housed in din
Beneath a moon and stars, twin watch unsung,
Bones coral soft or hard, or thick and thin.
Octopus ink blotted out the pennant,
Cuttlefish seemed captain's quarters tenant.
(Chorus)
o $10,000,000 pennant
o $10,000,000 banner
o $10,000,000 flag
