Through doubt - it was best to have the fact.
An overreaction would bust the pact
Of love between us which was edged with gilt,
He would take much umbrage at a pious tract,
My stomach churned, exacerbated by guilt.
I tickled him under the goosedown quilt,
I forementioned the inappropriate hours
He spent chatting to his colleague spilt
Non-commital nonsense on us and ours.
I asked if he would like the same done to him-
