sonnet #1,634
Seems hardly yesterday that young I fell
In love so easily by grand degrees,
My heart would race on, and my ribcage swell,
My eyes would idolise, my kneecaps freeze.
I've never ever waged since then so well,
I've ever never been so prepped to please,
As then I loved a tomcat tortoiseshell
Or babies bandied cross my bouncing knees.
Boy's gaze lingers, then my lashes flutter,
Boy's candid compliment, I'll thank and thank,
A first date kiss and my poor brain goes blank,
Understanding little which he'll utter.
Such is my valour, joie de vivre and vim
I wend from boy to boy, my love a whim.
(Chorus)
o vim
o ebullience
o gusto
